Kate Anello ’16
Zero5, New York, NY
Zero5 is a start-up non-profit that specializes in access to early-childhood education in developing countries. Kate will assist the staff members as a research assistant intern. She will attend meetings and conferences, as well as conduct administrative tasks such as maintaining their blog.

Anoush Baghdassarian ’17
Culture Project, New York, NY
Anoush will be assisting in various aspects of the organization. She will co-produce a Blueprint for Accountability panel, which is the Town Hall discussion series on humanitarian and political issues, and help Culture Project staff in development, marketing, social media, and other related projects.

Sesa Bakenra ’15
YETI, Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Sesa’s role as an intern will be to teach middle and high school students the “Language and Life Skills” curriculum which emphasizes reproductive health and biology, nutrition, sanitation, self empowerment and human and women’s rights. This is a continuation of the internship Sesa conducted in the summer of 2013 implementing this same program with Burmese refugees in Thailand.

Hannah Bottum ’17
Endeavor Global, New York, NY
Hannah will work with Endeavor’s Insight team conducting research and analysis related to high-impact entrepreneurship to expand employment opportunities for people across the globe.

Sloan Caldwell ’15
White House Initiative on American Indian & Native Alaskan Education, U.S. Department of Education, Washington, D.C.
Sloan’s internship will expose her to the issues faced by native populations in the U.S. and broaden her understanding of the disadvantages these populations face in terms of access to education and under representation.

Jamie Curran ’16
The Center on Wrongful Convictions, Northwestern University Law School, Chicago, IL
Jamie will assist with case research, interviews, events and other tasks related to the Center’s mission to exonerate wrongfully convicted persons. She will have the opportunity to work side by side human rights lawyers and witness legal proceedings and court cases in action.

Samuel Dunham ’15
Child Family Health International (CFHI), Quito/Chone, Ecuador
Sam will be an intern in CFHI’s Urban& Rural Comparative Health program in Ecuador where he will explore the urban and rural healthcare systems of Ecuador through clinical rotations that highlight the differences of healthcare services in the two regions. In Quito he will take medical and conversational Spanish classes and will also rotate through a variety of clinics in Quito under the supervision of local doctors. In Chone, he will work at the Hospital Napoleon Davila Cordova and observe and assist doctors with primary health care, sometimes complicated by tropical diseases.

Ben Fusek ’17
ThinkImpact, Kigali, Rwanda
ThinkImpact was established with the idea of delivering sustainable and scalable solutions to poverty and similar social issues through market-based enterprise solutions. Ben’s internship will involve collaborating with local community members in tackling such social challenges as poverty, unemployment, nutrition, and health.

Elizabeth Ginelli ’15
Child Family Health International (CFHI), Cape Town, South Africa
Elizabeth will be an intern with CFHI’s Healthcare Challenges program in Cape Town, South Africa. She will rotate alongside physicians at Victoria Hospital, located in the southern suburbs of Cape Town and will get an opportunity to understand how the health care system has dealt with a public health crisis that has fundamentally altered the state’s social and economic fabric.

Khadija Hassanali ’17
Asante Africa, Arusha, Tanzania
Khadija’s internship will involve conducting field work in Tanzania on behalf of Asante Africa Foundation. Her role will include teaching hygiene and reproductive health to school-age girls through Asante’s Wezesha Vijana-Empower Girls Program. Her work will support the Program Associate and will include drafting codebooks for pre- and post-intervention surveys, data entry of pre-intervention surveys completed by participants and providing administrative and/or research support as needed.

Jenna Hussein ’15
Human Rights Watch, New York, NY
Jenna will work with the communications department of HRW and will assist with efforts to expose and write about human rights abuses worldwide. She will be involved in planning events, speakers, communications, and administrative duties as needed.

Allison Krugman ’15
Projects Abroad (Human Rights Office), Cordoba, Argentina
Allie will work as an intern in the Human Rights division of Projects Abroad. Her duties will include interviewing victims/perpetrators of human rights abuses, academic research and reporting, out-of-office fieldwork (outreach projects with abused women and children’s shelters, NGOs, and disadvantaged communities), presentations to local communities, and attending and planning for human rights related conferences, workshops, and public debates.

Taylor Lemmons ’17
OpenMind Projects (OMP), Mae Sot, Thailand
Taylor will work with OMP staff to teach English, provide health care workshops and childcare to Burmese refugees. She will work at a small independently run orphanage, Heavenly Home, to implement an ESL-learning program. As well, Taylor aims to assemble photos and videos while in Thailand and put together a digital project in the style of “Humans of New York”, to put a face to the Burmese community in Thailand. Her goal is to bring this photo/video collection back to the U.S. to share with the 5C’s and other college campuses.

Brianna Masciel ’15
Ready4Life, Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Brianna will work with Ready4Life to combat the issues of youth unemployment and segregation in South Africa. She will work with a project team to provide job training and social entrepreneurship skills to local youths. This may include working with students to create resumes, practice job interviews and learn how to start a new business.

Cora Miller ‘15
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM), Washington, D.C.
Cora will be working at the USHMM in the University Programs Division of the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.

Monique Nguyen ’15
Child Family Health International (CFHI), Cordoba, Argentina
Monique will be an intern in CFHI’s Primary Care and Social Medicine program in Argentina. She will rotate in a variety of clinics and hospitals and witness government efforts to provide care to a large percentage of the population without health insurance. Jacquelyn will also partake in daily care of patients with family care practitioners and may take part in clinical rotations in other departments such as pediatrics, ophthalmology, dentistry, psychology and social services.

Zachariah Oquenda ’16

Sheila Panez ’15
Child Family Health International (CFHI), Cordoba, Argentina and La Paz, Bolivia
Sheila will be an intern in two of CFHI’s programs: she will spend 4 weeks in La Paz, Bolivia in the Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine rotation, and then she will travel to Cordoba, Argentina to intern in the Primary Care and Social Medicine program. Through these programs she is hoping to gain knowledge and experience that will assist her in her pursuit of a career in public health as a pediatrician working with underserved populations.

Sarah Sanbar ’17
Watan America, Amman, Jordan
Sarah will assist with the delivery of aid to refugee camps along the Jordanian border as well as visit hospitals in Amman and offer support as necessary.

Sarah Swartz ’15
SHARE, HEDECS, and Bafoussam Regional Hospital (BRH), Cameroon
Sarah will work with SHARE (Sustainable Healthcare Alliance for Recycled Equipment) to ensure that medical equipment shipped to Cameroon arrives and is installed and maintained properly. As well she will conduct health education workshops with both SHARE and HEDECS on hygiene and AIDS/HIV to establish strong working relationships with the community around BRH hospital. She will also have the opportunity to shadow doctors at BRH to learn more about healthcare in the developing world.

Sherin Zadah ’17

Sherin will assist with the delivery of aid to refugee camps along the Jordanian border as well as visit hospitals in Amman and offer support as necessary.
